It happened outside a Catholic church during Mass. Three more high schools will open in Detroit for the school year as part of the Michigan Future Schools program. Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick gave his first interview in Detroit after leaving prison earlier this summer. Zachary Katznelson participated in a discussion panel on that subject at Wayne State University. Katznelson says the attacks spurred the creation of a vast and secretive security apparatus that infringes on civil liberties. Officials for the Detroit Public Schools say 43, students attended the first day of school Tuesday, out of 79, enrolled.

The President will outline a jobs agenda to Congress on Thursday. The city of Detroit has again put a damper on plans to keep baseball at the site of the former Tiger Stadium. But the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation quashed the proposal. For years, those industries fought with the city and amongst themselves over who was responsible for the clean-up.
